Dr. Diandra Poe

My Story

Dr. Diandra Poe has distinguished herself as a multifaceted professional in the realms of psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and counseling, with a focused commitment to addressing sexual trauma and abuse. Her career began through the ROTC program at Bowie State University, leading to a six-year service as an 88A Transportation Officer in the United States Army, where she was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA, and Fort Cavazos, TX. This military foundation provided a robust backdrop for her ensuing work in crisis intervention and mental health care, which she delivered with deep compassion and expertise across diverse platforms and institutional settings.

In her subsequent role, Dr. Poe leveraged her Army leadership skills to enhance her impact in the healthcare sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working in an ICU setting, she collaborated with healthcare professionals to provide urgent care to patients facing life-threatening conditions. Beyond the hospital, she focused on the emotional challenges faced by youth transitioning out of foster care. She advocated fiercely for survivors of human trafficking in Baltimore, contributing significantly to the push for improved legislation and better access to essential care and therapies.

In 2020, Dr. Poe founded Glass Soldier, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting military personnel in reporting sexual assault and harassment and accessing essential mental health services. Amplifying her influence through her podcast, Duty-Bound, and appearances on numerous radio and television platforms, Dr. Poe continues to share her expertise as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Kentucky, enriching her students' learning with real-world insights drawn from her extensive academic and professional experiences.

Away from professional duties, Dr. Poe is a committed advocate for self-care, an avid traveler, and a student of various cultures. She is currently enhancing the accessibility of her practice by learning American Sign Language. She remains an active participant in the Army 10-miler and other races, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to fitness and community involvement.
